One More Time

This will be the last octopus piece for 2020, pretty sure the octopus will be a recurring theme in my artwork. Kind of like my owls and elephants, they are something I enjoy creating.

The giant pacific octopus was created using; powdered charcoal, with light spray of water, a spray of denatured alcohol and another spray with water. The octopus itself has a wee bit of pastel here and there mostly around the eye. Blue was used to draw in the suckers. I find the camera picks up more of the color than the eye. Using the reductive technique; a kneaded eraser is used to pull away the charcoal to expose lighter areas. Literally, drawing with the eraser. Details were put in with black and white charcoal pencils.

Title: "Between Sky and Sea"

Medium: Charcoal and Pastel

Size: approximately   8x10"

The octopus has been a recurring creature for me this year in my art. The image of the octopus has been with me for many years. It had been a guide to help me navigate through life. The stress of this year has been heavy for everyone. I am grateful to have this water creature keeping me company even if it is only in my imagination.
