Sometimes it is fun to work on small things. I just finished teaching drawing classes for Common Grounds on the Hill, Traditions Weeks 2021. It was online again this year and I started these little artworks as part of my demonstration on creating backgrounds and techniques in mixed mediums. I love drawing, I love line work and I love teaching these types of classes.

One of the things I gain from teaching is looking at things with fresh eyes. I remind myself that techniques are there for a reason. Plus, my heart reminds me how much I enjoy the elegance of the drawn line. All these reminders help keep my work fresh and fun. I have finished 7 of these 6x6" mixed media artworks. I will post them here and there on social media. They are for sale, if you are interested in any one or more pieces contact me via email or on the social media feeds for details. They are currently un-framed.

There are more to come in this size. In addition, there are some of the drippy tree pieces, some small, some large. Flowers in 6x6" and long format. Lots of different papers were used with multiple techniques. My classes covered looking at the abstracts in nature and mixed mediums. If you have a chance to play with all the art materials you have tucked away, do it, have fun, create. If you wished you had taken my class, there is always next year. Along with loving to draw, teach art, I like to share ideas and techniques. Here is a little step by step for you to try. If you would like to share what you created I would love to see your work.

1. Start with charcoal for background. Use white charcoal pencil to do outline, contour sketch. 2. Use kneaded or any eraser to remove some charcoal to expose the lights. 3. Black charcoal pencil, add in darks. 4. Finish details with white and black charcoal pencil.

Note: Look at the direction of the lines within the feather.

Good Luck, linda
